The onion's a danger? Disbelief as Bunnings dishes out warning about BBQs outside their stores

Bunnings Warehouse says onions should be put on the bread before the sausage in a move aimed at reducing the risk of slips.

The home improvement giant has told all community groups conducting BBQs outside their stores that onions on top of the snag could fall on the ground and become a hazard.

Bunnings chief operating officer Debbie Poole it was a "friendly recommendation" rather than an actual Occupational Safety and Health rule.

"Safety is always our No 1 priority," Ms Poole said.

"This recommendation is provided to the community groups within their fundraising sausage sizzle welcome pack and is on display within the gazebos when barbeques are underway."

She was confident that the change in sausage format would not affect the overall experience.

"Regardless of how you like your onion and snag, we are confident this new serving suggestion will not impact the delicious taste or great feeling you get when supporting your local community group."

Some people have ridiculed the move, asking how often onion-slipping incidents take place, while others said it was occupational health and safety gone mad.

Others defended the advice, saying a fall has the potential to cause a serious injury.
