One person killed, another seriously injured as West Coast crash closes SH6

Four people died at an intersection in the Kaingaroa Forest this morning, and another at Houhou Bridge near Hokitika.

One person has died and another is seriously injured in two-car a crash on the West Coast.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Houhou Bridge, Kumara Junction Highway at about 10.30am.

The injured person has been flown to Christchurch Hospital, St John told 1 NEWS.

Diversions are in place while police examine the scene.

NZ Transport Agency has tweeted that due to the crash blocking both lanes of the road, the highway is closed south of the intersection with Keogans Road.
