Trains delayed after one person dead after being struck by train in Auckland

The incident occurred in Mt Albert just after 12.30pm today.

Trains have been delayed after a person died after being struck by a train in Auckland this afternoon.

A St Johns spokesperson told 1 NEWS one ambulance and two support vehicles were sent to the scene in Mt Albert, just after 12.20pm.

Police added the incident happened at a railway crossing near Woodward Rd and a full scene examination is now underway.

The train involved, which was headed to Britomart, has been stopped.

Passengers on the train were moved to buses for the remainder of their journey. 

Police say trains will be delayed for a while longer as the scene is investigated.

A number of specialist police teams remain on the scene.
