One person dead, State Highway 3 closed in Waitomo after two-car crash

One person is dead and State Highway 3 in Waitomo is closed in both directions after a serious crash.

Police say the two-vehicle crash at Awakino was reported around 6.15pm.

Two people received serious injuries and two others moderate injuries.

Helicopters have been dispatched from New Plymouth and Hamilton.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
