One person dead following vehicle fire north of Auckland

One person has died in a vehicle fire just north of Auckland on Thursday..

Emergency services were called to the vehicle fire on SH16 in Kaukapakapa around 10.30pm.

A person was found near the vehicle with severe burns.

They were taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition.

The person died a short time later.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
