One person dead after crash north of Haast

One person has died following a crash at Moeraki River Bridge on Haast Highway this evening.

Emergency services were called at 6.49pm.

Police say three people got out of the vehicle safely, while one remained trapped.

The road is closed and motorists are asked to please avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
