One dead, nine hurt after bus and car crash south of Queenstown

One person is dead and nine others hurt following a crash between a bus and car south of Queenstown.

Police say the crash took place on State Highway 6 at Kingston around 7.20am.

Kingston is at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu. 

The injured have a range of injuries described moderate and minor, with one person flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries. 

Drivers are asked to avoid the area as roads are likely to close again this afternoon when the vehicles involved in the crash are removed from the crash site.

This accident follows another crash involving a car and a bus carrying 14 tourists near the Devils Staircase south of Queenstown a fortnight ago, where one person died.
