One dead after car hits tree in Turangi overnight

One person has died after a single-car crash on State Highway 1 in Turangi late last night.

Police said a car left the road and hit a tree about 11pm, with the car's sole occupant dying at the scene. 

The road reopened about 3am, after earlier being closed.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
