A west Auckland restaurant owner was appalled after a racist note was left on his wife's car last weekend.

Parviz Khorakchi emigrated from Iran with his wife and their two young children in 2003 and told the NZ Herald this is the first time he has ever faced racism in New Zealand.

The note, which Khorakchi posted on Instagram, said: "This is NZ Not your country our land our carpark".

It was left on his wife’s car last Saturday as she worked in the Kelston restaurant the family owns.

Khorakchi was left shaken by the incident as New Zealand has been the family's home for 15 years and they had never felt excluded before.

"My boy and girl are adults now but they grew up here, went to school here, they are Kiwis," he told the NZ Herald.

"This is so disappointing, we are so upset," he adds.

Khorakchi was not sure who had left the note but believed it may have been caused by jealousy.

"Some people are jealous. We work seven days a week," he said.

"I work hard, I don't expect government help, we are all New Zealand citizens and we never did anything wrong to the country, which is why this is really upsetting."
