Nine pieces of evidence unaccounted for from deadly Pike River mine disaster, family spokesman claims

February 18, 2019

Tony Forster gave John Campbell an exclusive interview.

Family member's of those who died in the Pike River mine explosion believe more pieces of evidence that could shed light into what caused the disaster are being hidden.

Family spokesperson Bernie Monk believes somebody has "something to hide" and believes at least nine pieces of evidence have
disappeared from the site since the explosions in 2010, he told Newstalk ZB today.

Twenty-nine men died in the explosion at the mine on Novemeber 29, 2010.

A photo of an electrical cabinet came to light yesterday. The door from a fan control box was photographed nine days after the first explosion in 2010.

Tony Foster, a former chief mines inspector from the UK, who's advising victims' families, has tried to track down the object with no success.

But Mr Monk told Newstalk NZ there were other things that were photographed and taken away but never made it to evidence as well.

"We know that there’s nine other items that were brought out by helicopter that we’re trying to investigate as well."

The families had been "left in the dark" too long, he said.

"Why did they ever want to seal this mine up when all this evidence was on the table, ya know, they’ve obviously got something to hide
here."
