Nine people injured in jet boat crash on Shotover River, Queenstown

Nine people have been injured after a commercial jet boat crashed on the Shotover river, Skippers Canyon, in Queenstown this morning.

The crash occurred around 10 this morning in the remote area of Skippers Canyon.

Police say ten people were on board and were working in the area - nine have received injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

A helicopter can be seen on Shotover River, in Queenstown.

All the injured have been transported by helicopter to Lakes District Hospital for treatment. 

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has opened an investigation following the incident, and have appointed team of investigators who will go to the accident site as soon as posible.

Maritime New Zealand has been notified.
