Newborn hospitalised with serious injuries, Tauranga police investigating

December 31, 2018

Police are investigating after an infant, just three-and-a-half weeks old, had to be airlifted from Tauranga to Starship Hospital in Auckland yesterday due to serious injuries.

The child remains in serious condition, police say.

Police were alerted to the injuries after the boy, whose family lives in Welcome Bay, was taken to Tauranga Hospital.

"Tauranga CIB are currently working to understand exactly what has occurred, and a forensic examination at a Welcome Bay address has been ongoing throughout today," Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said in a statement.
