August 28, 2019
He’s handed over the mayoral chains after 18 years on the job.

The new Race Relations Commissioner, Meng Foon, is currently visiting contested site Ihumātao.

In just his third day on the job, Mr Foon met with people occupying the 32-hectare land in South Auckland, where Fletcher Building is looking to build 480 new houses.

He's alongside chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt, who handed over a copy of the Commission's report on Ihumātao.

The report says applying New Zealand's international human rights commitments can help in resolving the situation.
