Julie Anne Genter's return to Parliament saw her newborn boy Joaquin make an appearance in the debating chamber this week, with the Minister for Women saying it was good to be back "in the thick" of Parliament.
"Becoming a new parent in the hardest job I've done," she said. "I am in admiration of all parents, especially solo parents and those with several young children."
"Sleep disruption in the first few months was very rough and certainly more difficult than an election campaign or ministerial work."
Ms Genter gave birth on August 21.
She said she was fortunate that her partner was on hand and that of Parliament has become "much more family friendly".
"This has enabled me to continue to breastfeed while returning to work. I'm getting much better at multi-tasking than I ever imagined I could."
Ms Genter said she noticed the "importance of having space to breastfeed in workplaces".
"Breastfeeding is incredibly beneficial, and yet can be quite challenging. When women do return to work, making it easier for them to continue breastfeeding would certainly help."
