New fleet of utes for Piha surf lifesavers

One of our most notorious beaches is getting a boost to its rescue fleet as the surf lifesaving beach patrol season kicks off in just a couple of weeks.

Piha Surf Lifesaving Club, made famous by the television show 'Piha Rescue', has been gifted a fleet of three customised Navara patrol vehicles.

President Peter Brown says with over 50 rescues a year, the fleet will dramatically help speed up lifesaving missions.

"Anything that helps us get to someone faster really benefits us. It's going to be huge, we can have it at the ready with all the lifesaving gear on it," he said.

The vehicles will also enable the club to attend emergencies outside the normal capabilities.
