Nelson projects unity onto city's clock tower in 'Stand Together' light display

The light display on the Nelson City Council building.

Every night this week, people in Nelson will be able to look to the city’s clock tower to remind them of a community united.

A light display  is being cast onto the Nelson City Council building, which shows figures  wrapped around the clock, holding hands.

‘Light Nelson’, an organisation that runs local artistic events, says its project ‘Stand Together’ symbolises the city’s "defiance in the face of racism and support in particular for our Muslim community but also for anybody who lives in fear because of the colour of their skin, their religion or their culture".

The 'Stand Together' light display is cast onto the Nelson City Council building.

This Friday, the public are invited to hold hands in a circle around the Nelson Muslim prayer room on Hardy Street at 12.30pm.

The project will run each night on the clock tower in the lead up to Race Unity Day, which takes place on Sunday at Victory Square.
