Nelson pizza shop feeding hungry fire evacuees - 'People out there and they need help'

A Nelson pizza cafe owner says she has no choice but to help those evacuated from the Nelson fire, saying "if you can, you must".

Claudia Kern of Prego Mediterranean Foods and Comida Cafe is contributing hundreds of meals to the places where evacuees are being taken in, including local marae.

"For me there's no option - there's people out there and they need help, and we can help, so we have to help - if you can you must," Ms Kern said.

After seeing requests for meals coming in on Facebook from the shelters, she and her staff leapt into action.

"There'll be 20-odd pizzas delivered to the marae when they need them," she said.
