Neighbour says death of man at Hastings property 'scary' and 'weird'

A man died this morning, after being found at a Bridge Pa home with critical injuries last night.

Police are carrying out investigations at the scene of a Hastings homicide, after a man died this morning.

He was found at a Bridge Pa home with critical injuries last night and died in Wellington Hospital today.

Police have been speaking to two men over the death and one of them, a 61-year-old, has been charged with assault with intent to injure, and will be appearing in Hastings District Court tomorrow.

A man who lives at the address cordoned off says a fight between two men occurred on the street last night.

David Pere says the men don’t live at either addresses with scene examinations outside, but do live in the wider area.

He says the victim was in his 50s and spots of blood can still be seen on the road outside the house.

Two people, a young man and a woman, have been seen leaving the address loading a few possessions into a car.

A neighbour has told 1 NEWS the incident is “scary” and “weird” but they didn’t see or hear anything out of ordinary until police cars arrived around 9pm.

Police are examining two separate points of interest on Maraekakaho Road.

The property where they found the man is just down the road from Bridge Pa school.
