Parliament will work together to tackle child poverty, after the Opposition jumped on board to support the Government's Child Poverty Reduction Bill.

National Party leader Simon Bridges says they "want to do everything we can to support New Zealand children to be happy and healthy".

He said the Bill had been improved through child poverty-related indicators being specifically measured and the acknowledgment of early intervention principles and evidence-informed policy when making decisions.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the legislation was "game-changing".

"This Government is committed to genuine change to tackle poverty and achieving our goal of making New Zealand the best place in the world to be a child."

She said it was important the Child Poverty laws survived changes of Government.

"I thank the National Party for their amendments and their support of our Bill."
