Napier house fire sparks police probe, occupants escape injury

Two people in a Napier house escaped injury during a fire this afternoon that police say may be suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the property on Cumberland Rise in the suburb of Taradale at about 3pm.

Two people were in the house at the time but were not injured, police said in a statement tonight.

The fire caused significant damage to the living area and initial inquiries indicate it may be suspicious, police said.

Police investigating the fire are appealing for information.
