A 31-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Shayne Heappey, who died from injuries in Christchurch Hospital on December 8.

He was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court today.

A 29-year-old is remanded in custody after also being charged with Mr Heappey’s murder and is set to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.

Police say the 50-year-old man who was previously charged has now been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is expected to reappear in court on January 11.

Inquiries are still ongoing with additional charges likely for all those arrested.

A forensic scene investigation will be completed today at a Somerfield address.

“This has been a fast-moving enquiry with an investigation team that’s worked tirelessly to locate those responsible for the death of Mr Heappey,” says Detective Inspector Corrie Parnell.

“Police would like to thank the community for their assistance and reassure them that this was an isolated incident.”
