The mother of a teenage girl at the centre of a trial involving two police officers is testifying in the Auckland High Court.

Inspector Hurimoana Dennis faces two charges of holding the 17-year-old against his will, while Sergeant Vaughan Perry faces a single charge of kidnapping.

The officers face kidnapping and detention charges involving the teenager's 17-year-old boyfriend in 2015.

The mother, who's identity is suppressed, testified that she and her daughter's boyfriend's mother set rules around the relationship in 2014 that included it being platonic.

She described his parents as being completely devastated when it emerged the relationship was a sexual one in 2015.

Her daughter was then 15 and under the age of consent.

The mother said the teenage boy's father was "distraught and wailing loudly, he was extremely upset and was calling it statutory rape".

Under cross examination, the woman said she and her husband were also upset but thought the man's behaviour was "over the top".

The Court has heard of an earlier disagreement between the families of the two teenagers at a local park and the police were called.

One of the police officers on trial, Hurimoana Dennis, turned up at the dispute dressed in casual clothes and tried to "calm the situation down".
