A motorcyclist has died following a crash involving his motorbike and a car in Christchurch's east tonight.
The crash occurred on Aldwins Road, just north of Ferry Road, shortly after 6.15pm.
A 20-year-old lost his life after the accident on Aldwins Rd around 6pm.
Police say the 20-year-old man riding the motorcycle has died as a result of the crash.
The motorbike caught on fire following the crash, police said earlier.
Aldwins Road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police have thanked members of the public who assisted immediately after the crash to support those involved and make the scene safe.
