Police have released the identity of the 23-year-old port worker who died yesterday after an accident involving a container straddle crane last week.

He was Laboom Midnight Dyer of Auckland.

The accident took place in the early hours of August 27 at Port of Auckland, when the crane Mr Dyer was driving tipped over.

Mr Dyer's family wanted the public to know that he had donated his organs to people in need, and that they were used to help save the lives of six people.

WorkSafe is investigating the circumstances of the accident.
