More than 200 people turn up for cattle disease meeting in Napier

Some South Canterbury farmers are calling for the drastic action.

The owners of a property affected by Mycoplasma bovis in the Hawkes Bay have been named at a meeting in Napier.

More than 200 people turned out last night to an awareness meeting on the disease hosted by MPI in Napier.

The property is a small bull grazing and finishing unit in the Hastings district of Patoka and the owners are the White family.

The Rural Support Trust received a phone call from the couple yesterday who said they wanted their names made public.

With a young family, the couple have found it hard to face the outside world since the diagnosis but say they are doing OK.

MPI have told farmers they still don't understand exactly how the disease spread from the South Island.
