Unveiled in 1969 to celebrate the opening of Cuba Mall, some initially called it a “monstrosity”.

The iconic Wellington Bucket Fountain celebrates its 50th birthday today.

It was unveiled in 1969 to celebrate the opening of Cuba Mall but was a controversial feature.

It has been described as an "engineering joke" and a "monstrosity" by some, but the fountain has also worked its way into residents' hearts.

Today's celebrations will include online activities and activities around the neighbourhood for everyone to enjoy.
