Seven fire crews are on the scene following a blaze at a scrap metal yard in Palmerston North early this morning.
Fire crews were alerted to the fire at Molten Metals just before 4am.
Police officers say metal and old cars were alight, creating hazardous smoke on Kelvin Grove Road, Kelvin Grove.
People have been asked to avoid an area of Kelvin Grove while emergency services attend the incident.
Diversions are in place.
