Police have confirmed a body has been taken out of the water after a swimmer went missing in Beach Haven, Auckland yesterday.
A large sea, air, and land search was conducted after the man went missing late last night.
He struck difficulty after swimming out to help a friend in trouble, who was clinging to a boat anchor rope 40 metres offshore.
The search moved on from the original search spot by Aeroview drive area to other parts of Beach Haven.
About 7.20am today, a member of the public alerted police they had found a body near Beach Haven wharf.
Police are yet to officially confirm that it is the body of the missing swimmer.
The man he tried to save was able to grab a boat rope to stay afloat and was rescued by a kayaker unhurt.
