Police issue photo of missing Auckland teen Mia Cooper, launch fresh appeal for information

December 18, 2018

Police have released a CCTV video still of missing Auckland teen Mia Cooper, along with a new appeal for information from the public.

The image was captured on Friday, the same day the 15-year-old was reported missing.

Police released it today hours after it was widely reported - erroneously - that the teen had been found safe.

"We can confirm police have not located her," officials said today on the North Shore, Rodney & West Auckland Police Facebook page, where the photo was posted.

"Police cannot discount the possibility that she may be with associates," the post also stated. "We would like to speak with Mia to establish that she is safe and well."

The teen's disappearance triggered a high-profile search after her mum appealed to the public for help. Mia had been battling anxiety and was with people she didn't know very well on the day she went missing, Tracey Stewart previously said, adding that she was "absolutely sick with worry".

The teen's phone hadn't been used and she hasn't been active online since early Saturday, she earlier noted.

But in a post today on her Facebook page that was later deleted, Ms Stewart announced: "We know that Mia is alright and we are in the process of getting her home and surrounding her with the love and supports that she needs."

After that was deleted, she posted again saying that media reports were wrong and that her daughter was still missing. That post has also since been removed from public view.

Yesterday evening, Ms Stewart thanked the public for its support in aiding her search.
