Meet the man whose been making floats for Auckland's Santa Parade since 1972

Key to those preparations is Peter Taylor, who has been making the parade’s floats since 1972.

Last minute preparations are underway for the Auckland Farmers Santa Parade, this Sunday.

The event turns 85 this year and for 46 of those years it’s been Peter Taylor making the floats.

Some of his creations from over 30 years ago are still in action, but there’s always new additions being primed to roll down Queen Street.

One of this year’s feature floats has taken close to three months of full time work to complete.

“I’d say it’s a true to life size T-Rex dinosaur” Mr Taylor said.

Looking around his warehouse sized workshop, it’s full of his work.

Over the years, Mr Taylor’s made more floats than he could count.

“Brings back great memories” he said.

“Probably each year I say look, this is going to be the last one, and forty six years pass by and I’m still here doing it”

He can’t say how many years he will continue for, but admits, “everything comes to an end sometime”.

The Farmers Santa Parade begins at 1pm on Sunday.

The rain date is Sunday December 2.
