Aston has also convinced his family to change their diets.

A 10-year-old boy who decided to go vegan to help the environment has convinced his family to follow suit.

Aston took up the vegan diet when he was only seven-years-old.

"It’s good for the environment, it’s good for our body, it’s a great help to the earth and to yourself," he told TVNZ1's Te Karere.

"I was eating some fish and stuff for dinner like every other night. I just had a little think and was like 'I don’t understand why I love animals but I’m eating it and I don’t have to because it’s a choice; I’m choosing to eat this,'" he says.

Aston has inspired his whānau to become vegan too as his mum Devon Murphy Davids explains.

"He actually came to us again and was like, 'I don’t want birthday presents I want you guys to be vegan with me for my birthday' and so I thought 'that cheeky boy’.

"How do you say no to that? But that’s when we realised how important it was to him."

The vegan diet is now normal for Aston and he has made a lifelong commitment to it.

"I think it’s best to protect the earth by going vegan," he says.
