Massive plumes of black smoke rise into the sky from Rotorua car wreckers fire

There are no reports of injuries from the blaze.

Fire and Emergency NZ are at the scene of a large fire at a car wreckers in Ngongotaha, Rotorua.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson told 1 NEWS they were called to the scene just after 7pm and there are 22 fire engines currently at the scene.

There are no reports of injuries and neighbouring properties are not under threat from the fire at this stage. 

Video from the scene shows massive amounts of thick black smoke billowing into the sky from the fire.

People downwind of the blaze are warned to keep their windows shut and stay inside, with locals also asked to avoid the area.
