A man has survived two nights trapped in his car after it went down a steep bank near Gisborne.

The man was found at around 4pm on Sunday after his car crashed off State Highway 2 about an hour north of Gisborne on Christmas Day.
Police say the man suffered some injuries but was conscious when he was found.
The man was taken to hospital.
