Man sneers 'hope you rot in jail' at Susan Burdett murder accused Malcolm Rewa as he leaves court

Details of today’s testimony could be disturbing to some viewers.

A member of the public addressed the man accused of murdering Susan Burdett as he left the public gallery at Auckland's High Court today saying, "Hope you rot in jail, you wanker".

The male leaned in towards the dock and made the comment while sneering at the accused, Malcolm Rewa.

The man then quietly left the courtroom. Rewa didn’t appear to react to the comment.

In court today a pathologist has told the jury that murdered woman Susan Burdett suffered extensive injuries to her head.

Ms Burdett was killed in her Papatoetoe home in 1992. Serial rapist Malcolm Rewa is accused of her murder.

Pathologist Dr Simon Stables told the court Ms Burdett suffered multiple fractures and lacerations to her skull.

He said there were at least five blows to the head by a blunt instrument and there was significant bruising to her face.

Dr Stables said the injuries could have been caused by a baseball bat.

The court has already heard how Ms Burdett kept a baseball bat by her bed for protection.

That baseball bat was discovered close to her body on her bed.

The trial continues.
