A man had to be reccued from his car in Otago today after the vehicle became trapped in floodwater.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson has told 1 NEWS they received 79 weather related call outs today from the South Island, the majority of them from East Otago.
Most of the calls were in regards to flooding in the streets.
The spokesperson said one man had to be rescued after becoming trapped in his car, near stuck in water at a railway underpass, near Kaitangata.
Poor weather conditions in the worst affected areas are expected to ease overnight.
