Man is his 20s suffers suspected spinal injuries surfing at Muriwai

A man in his 20s sustained serious suspected spinal injuries while body boarding or body surfing at Muriwai this evening.

A spokesperson for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust said they were called to the beach near Auckland about 7.30pm.

The man was flown to Middlemore hospital in a serious condition.

That incident followed another at Piha's Kite Kite Falls, where the helicopter crew were called to assist a woman in her 60s who had fallen and cut her head.
