Man found dead in Ōpōtiki river believed to have died in jet-ski incident

Police say a man found dead in a Bay of Plenty river is believed to have died in a jet-ski incident.

The body was found at the Otara River, Ōpōtiki, near the end of Ford Street, on Saturday at around 6.40pm.

"Initial indications are that the man's death has occurred following a jet-ski incident on the river," police said in a statement today.

Inquiries into the man's death are ongoing.

His name has not yet been publicly released.
