Man drowns after jumping into water at Wellington beach to rescue a child

A man died in Wellington last night after he got into trouble in the water at Seatoun beach.

According to Stuff the man jumped into the water to save a child who had fallen off a wharf. 

The child made it to safety but the man didn't. 

He was taken to Wellington Hospital in critical condition but died shortly after. 

Emergency services were called at 8.35pm.

His death is being referred to the Coroner.
