Man dies following 'water incident' at Far North beach

A man has died at Spirits Bay in Northland in what police are describing as a "water incident".

Police say they were initially called to reports of a man being swept out to sea at the beach right at the top of the North Island at around 3:30pm today.

Police are working to notify the man's next of kin and the death will be referred to the Coroner.
