A 63-year-old man died while diving in the Far North on Wednesday.
He had entered the sea near Waipoua that afternoon to go diving for seafood, a police spokesman said.
The man was found unresponsive on the shore that evening.
CPR was given, but he was pronounced dead the scene.
His death will be referred to the coroner.
