Police emergency scene

A man charged over a crash which left a baby dead can now be named.

Andrew Fleming, 47,  appeared in Nelson District Court today on a charge of careless driving causing injury.

Nelson police are still investigating the crash on Waimea Rd, which took place on April 30.

The parents of a 30-week-old unborn baby were injured in the crash, with the pregnant woman having to undergo an emergency Caesarean section.

The baby died in Wellington Hospital on Saturday.

Fleming has been granted bail and will appear back in court later this month.

Police say further charges may be laid and want to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the crash.
