The man charged over the death of a 5-month-old baby has continued to deny is he is guilty of murder.
William Martin Wakefield, 32, appeared in the High Court in Wellington today where he claimed his stepson’s death on June 11, 2018, was manslaughter.
Emergency services found baby Lincoln Wakefield seriously injured in an Upper Hutt home last year. The child died in hospital shortly after undergoing surgery.
William Martin Wakefield entered a guilty plea to manslaughter, but pleaded not guilty to two other charges of murder and intent to cause grievous bodily harm between May and June, 2018.
He is scheduled to reappear in court in March and the trial is set to start in June.
