A man has been charged with murder over the death of four-week-old Maree Takuira Mita Ngahere.
Police say the 22-year-old man faces one charge of murder over the Kaitaia baby's death in February.
They say he also faces a charge of assault on a child, over a separate matter.
On March 6 police said a post-mortem indicated Maree suffered a brain injury and bleeding to her brain causing her death on February 21.
There was also severe bruising on one arm and thigh.

The man is due to appear in the Kaitaia District Court tomorrow.
