Man charged with murder after man's body found on rural property near Dunedin

A Dunedin man has been charged with murder and a Dunedin woman faces an accessory to murder charge after the body of a man was found in a rural area north of the city on Monday.

The 37-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were arrested in Rotorua yesterday and will appear in Rotorua District Court today with a video link to Dunedin District Court.

Detective Inspector Shona Low, Field Crime Manager, Southern District told media the man’s body was found "in an advanced state of decomposition" with formal identification to take a little time.

The body was found in Steep Hill Road north of Waitati, Detective Inspector Low said.

"We have received some information regarding this matter from the public and we thank them for their assistance," Detective Inspector Low said.

Police located the Dark blue 1995 Toyota people mover in Picton, but they were still appealing for information about that vehicle which travelled from Dunedin to Picton in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 5 February.
