Man and woman charged over Wesport kidnapping incident involving firearm

Two people have been charged over an incident in Westport on the Saturday in which a man was threatened with a sawn-off gun and kidnapped.

Police say the Armed Offenders Squad were called to the incident on Saturday after a man kidnapped and threatened another man with a firearm following a dispute in Westport.

The 25-year-old man who was arrested on Saturday is facing kidnapping and firearms charges. He is due to appear in the Westport District Court on the 13th of December.

During the incident an AOS member was bitten and assaulted by a woman. The 24-year-old was arrested and has been charged with obstruction and assaults police.

She is due to appear in the Blenheim District Court today.
