Magnitude 5.2 quake near Nelson felt in New Plymouth and Christchurch

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake has shaken the northern South Island, with the jolt also felt across Cook Strait.

The quake was centred 20km southwest of Motueka at a depth of 102km.

According to GeoNet, more than 2000 people reported feeling the shake, from as far away as Christchurch and New Plymouth.

There are no reports of any damage.
