Magnitude 4.2 quake rattles top of the South Island, 7000 aftershocks recorded since massive quake

A 4.2 magnitude quake recorded as "moderate" has struck the top of the South Island this morning.

The quake was 25km east of Seddon and was at a depth of 21km.

The quake was felt north of Wellington and as far south as Christchurch.

A total of 207 felt-it reports have been recorded by it.

So far, more than 7000 aftershocks have been recorded by GeoNet since the 7.8 earthquake last month.
