Māori man breaks tradition, takes on Pākehā wife's surname

Te Aroha Grace spoke to Marae about why he chose to change his name.

A Māori man had broken with tradition by taking his Pākehā wife’s surname.

It's not known if any other man has done this in Māoridom, but Te Aroha Grace, formerly known as Morehu, could be one of the first men to change his name to his wife’s.

The unconventional choice by Te Aroha has raised all sorts of cultural questions.

TVNZ1's Marae spoke to him about what led him to the decision.
