Luxury gondola set to ferry tourists up Mt Ruapehu in style

A major tourist drawcard is being built on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu on the North Island's central plateau.

The luxury gondola - think leather seats and wi-fi all the way - is rushing towards completion ahead of the ski season.

Once complete it will be the country's longest gondola at just under two kilometres in length.

It will also be able to carry an impressive 2400 passengers an hour.

Watch the video above for a sneak peek at the tourist attraction.
