A female hiker has been rescued from a Northland forest after she became lost and fell off a waterfall.

Police say they received a call from a 24-year-old woman last night who had become lost in the Raetea Forest while walking the Te Arora trail.

Due to poor reception the call was cut short.

Search and Rescue was deployed around 6am this morning along with Far North LandSAR volunteers.

The woman was located around midday, some way off the trial after falling down a tall waterfall.

She walked out with minor injuries.
